Mt. Rinjani Trek – Questions & Answers

Q: What is the best time of the year to climb Mt Rinjani? And when does the park close?

A: The best season for climbing Rinjani is April – December. Mt Rinjani National Park closes from 15th of January – March due to heavy rain. In fact, almost all year round it’s possible to trek due to the tropical climate of Lombok. Occasionally the volcano’s activity changes meaning that we cannot climb. The National Park authority send notifications about changes in the volcano’s activity.

Q: What is the difference between the Deluxe and Standard Class?

A: The Deluxe Class includes gives travellers more luxurious facilities such as; 8CM soft mattresses for sleeping, toilet shelter, more food choices , while Standard Class uses communal trekking equipment. The Deluxe Class also includes a higher star rated hotel the night before the trek, meanwhile Standard Class includes a nights stay at a more basic homestay.

Q: Do the porters carry our luggage/backpack?

A: No they don’t. The porters we provide are in charge of carrying the communal equipment for the trek program only – tents, cooking equipment, etc. If you wish, you can pay for an extra porter to carry your personal luggage at 300,000 IDR / per day / per porter.

Q: Where can I leave my extra luggage during the trek program?

A: You can leave them in our office or in our base in Senaru. You can have all your luggage back at the end of the trek.

Q: I am arriving on a late night flight but would like to do the trek directly, which program should I take in order to have 1 nights accommodation before I start the trek?

A: When you arrive at Lombok International Airport, we will pick you up and transfer you to one of our hotels in Senaru Village. Hotels in the Deluxe Class include: Pondok Senaru Cottage, Sinar Rinjani Cottage, Rinjani Light House, Agro Villa  Sembalun, Lembah Rinjani Villa Sembalun. Hotel included in Standard Class is: Pondok Indah Senaru.

Q: How many groups can you organise per day?

A: We capacity to handle a maximum of 5 groups per day.

Q: How many guides and porters are there for each program?

A: This varies between trekking programmes. We usually use 1 guide and 2 porters for smaller groups, however for larger groups of more than 6 people, we always use an additional porters. To keep our service personalised, our guides will go with a maximum number of 4 people. Groups larger than this will receive an extra guide, in addition to the extra porters.

Q: Are we travelling in a big group or individual group?

A: Upon request, you can be handled separately from our groups that depart on the same date. If you travel in a family, or just among friends or colleagues we can adjust our program to meet your needs. Just let us know and we’ll try our very best to accommodate.

Q: Do the guides speak English?

A: Yes, all of our mountain guides speak English.

Q: How about transfers to and from Mt. Rinjani?

A: Don’t worry about your transport, it is included in our price. We will pick you up before the trek and transfer you to anywhere in Lombok with no additional costs.

Q: How many litres of mineral water do we get per person per day during our hike of Mount Rinjani?

A: We will provide 3 litres per person per day from the start to the end of your trip.
