Located in the quieter part of the island of Gili Air, just a 5-minute walk from the beach, close by the best sunset spots, Rimba Villas offer the perfect island hideaway.
The small complex comprises of 3 villas –a 1-bedroom, a 2-bedroom & a 3-bedroom.
The villas are based around teak Joglo houses, originating from Java, adapted and modernised with stylish fittings, furnishings and a pinch of Italian flair.
We stayed in Villa Bayu – the largest of the 3 – this was perfect for our group of 4 adults and 1 toddler. There was plenty of room for us to move around, a large garden abundant with tropical plants for us to enjoy, a pool and seating areas. The kitchen was fully equipped, although we didn’t actually do any cooking because there are so many delicious restaurants located with walking (or cycling) distance.
When you walk into your room the first thing you are hit, or rather kissed with, is the gloriously sweet smell of antique wood. You’ll notice the beams and how the joglo has been fitted by hand, each piece of wood slotted together; the intricate carvings and design that make these joglos so iconic and such a thing of beauty. In fact, the longer you stay, the more you’ll notice – the villas are like a gift that keeps on giving. So much care and consideration has been put into the design of the place and the furnishings, so that old and new sit hand in hand harmoniously.
Each room is spacious, fitted with AC and a simple built-in wardrobe. The walls have been decorated with carved tile compositions acting as artwork, I would say this was one of my favourite features – the perfect blend of modern approach combined with traditional design. The two largest bedrooms lead to ensuite wet-rooms with large mirrors, wash basins and surrounding space for toiletries.
The pool is luxurious and surrounded by tropical plants and cozy hideaways to snuggle up with a book, or relax with your group of friends, drinking that Indonesian favourite – Bintang beer.
The most special thing about Rimba Villas is the level of care you’re given. Staff are available around the clock, always smiling and ready to help. Breakfast is plentiful and delicious with varying options, presented beautifully on artisan plates. Rooms are cleaned daily, to a very high standard. Soft and comfortable bed linen. Water refill in a plus, because it means there’s no need to buy numerous bottles of water, whilst at the same time saving the little island from plastic pollution. Good quality, well maintained bikes are given, free of addition charge. There’s even Gili Air maps at reception so you don’t get lost.
