You’ll arrive in Sembalun at around 8:00 am, where you’ll complete the necessary registration at Rinjani Information Center (RIC) at 1,051 meters above sea level.
The trek starts with a journey to Pos 1 (Pemantauan) at 1,300 meters, with about 2 hours of walking. We’ll take a short 5-10 minute rest at Pos 1 before continuing to Pos 2 (Tengengean) at 1,500 meters, which takes approximately 1 hour. After a brief break at Pos 2, we’ll proceed to Pos 3 (Pada Balong) at 1,800 meters, which requires roughly 1 hour of walking. We’ll rest for 2 hours at Pos 3, where your guide and porters will prepare lunch and offer hot beverages.
Following lunch and a well-deserved rest, we’ll continue our journey to the Sembalun Crater Rim (Pelawangan Sembalun) at 2,639 meters. The trek takes about 3 hours, including a steep climb. We’ll spend the night at Sembalun Crater Rim, allowing us to enjoy breathtaking views of Segara Anak Lake, Sembalun village, the summit of Mount Rinjani, and the northern part of Lombok. You can witness the stunning sunset, if you’re lucky get a glimpse of the Milky Way and prepare for the sunrise on the next day.
Day 2 – Summit, Segara Anak Lake, and Senaru Crater Rim:
Your day starts early at 2:30 am with a light breakfast. We’ll begin our ascent to the Rinjani Summit (3,726 meters) at 3:00 am, which will take approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes.
The trek to the summit involves a moderate climb in the first stage for 120 minutes, followed by a fairly easy but lengthy trek. The final hour is steep and challenging, with loose stones making the climb demanding. From the summit, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of Lombok, Bali, Sumbawa, and Segara Anak Lake. After the sunrise, we’ll descend to Sembalun Crater Rim for a hot breakfast and a break.
After sufficient rest, we’ll make our way down to the Segara Anak Lake and its soothing hot springs. Be cautious, as this descent is steep and slippery. It will take about 3 hours to reach the lake, where you’ll have lunch. The hot springs are just a 100-meter walk away, providing you the opportunity to relax and soothe your skin.
Following lunch and a well-deserved break, we’ll hike up to the Senaru Crater Rim. The trail is challenging, steep, and stony, so careful footing is essential. The trek takes about 3 hours, and you’ll reach a point with a spectacular view. Here, you can enjoy an incredible sunset over Mount Agung in Bali and observe the smoke rising from the new volcano near the lake. You’ll spend the night at this scenic spot, camping and enjoying dinner.
Day 3 – Senaru Crater Rim and Senaru Village
After breakfast, you’ll have the chance to relish the sunrise and capture the stunning lake scenery. Usually for our trekking groups, collection from Sengiggi, Mataram area & Bangsal Harbour will use different shuttle busses. On occasion, when trekking groups are small, these trips are combined which means that travellers collected from Sengiggi/ Mataram area will have a longer travel time because they will need to wait for travellers arriving on the first boat from the Gilis to arrive at Bangsal Harbour. This is done to keep the prices low for all travellers.
