Getting to the Gilis from Bali

Travelling between places can feel daunting when trying to organise it alone, by using us you’ll ensure you have a hassle free transfer to the Gilis.

The three most popular Gilis (translation: island) – Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air can be reached by fast boat from Padang Bay Harbour, Bali. The boat journey takes 1.5hrs. In most cases you can choose whether you want to depart in the morning or the afternoon.

Fast boat tickets should include transport by shuttle bus to Padang Bay Harbour from Bali’s main tourist destinations.

These include:

  • Kuta – Legian
  • Seminyak
  • Sanur
  • Tanjung Benoa & Nusa Dua
  • Jimbaran
  • Ubud

Fast boat tickets range in price from between 300,000 – 500,000 IDR / person. The price varies depending on the season, the fast boat operator, your group size, whether you are getting a return ticket, as well as your bargaining ability.

Another option is to go from Bali’s Padang Bay Harbour to Lombok’s Lembar Harbour by slow ferry. You’d need to get either a taxi to Padang Bay Harbour or go with your rented motorbike. Ferry journey times range dramatically between 4hrs – 10hrs (one time it took us 12hrs). The cost of the ferry ticket is 50K IDR / person with a motorbike and are a bit less if you are travelling on foot. Once you arrive at Lembar Harbour, you’ll then need to find a taxi to take you to Bangsal Harbour. The price of this journey is approximately 300K IDR and takes 1.5hrs.

You can also fly to Lombok from Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport. Flights go multiple times per day, and usually take 40 minutes – 1.5hrs and cost approximately 500K IDR / person. Flight tickets do sell out quickly, if you plan on using this mode of transport we recommend booking it at least a couple of weeks in advance.

From the Airport in Lombok you’ll need to get a taxi to Bangsal Harbour (400K IDR) in order to meet up with a local public boat (20K IDR / person – departs every hour between 7:30am – 6:00pm). The journey time is approximately 20 minutes but often there is a long waiting time to catch a local boat as they depart when their capacity has been reached. Boat tickets for Gili Trawangan can be purchased from the larger ticket office located at the Harbour on the left hand side. Boat tickets for Gili Air and Gili Meno can be purchased from the smaller ticket office on the far right side of the harbour. If when you arrive if you’re unsure of where you should go, ask the locals working in the restaurants, shops or cafes.

You can also go to the Gilis from Bangsal Harbour in Lombok by fast boat (150K – 400K IDR / person – prices depend on whether you are using the public fast boat during the day or private speed boat during the day or night).
